Do I understand it correctly, that you already have the focus in the left or right side of the changes view? What exactly should happen if you show the file in Unified view? What exactly should happen if this line is hidden?

You can configure the keyboard shortcuts in the preferences. There you can replace the default F3 with Ctrl+F3, if you prefer it that way.

Please check out SmartGit 22.1 preview. It has a new "Standard window " that does exactly that.

In the profile settings you can find file and directory filters.

Local | Remove should do the trick.

SmartGit 22.1 is only in preview, SmartGit 22.2 not even started.
